My name is Marrill, and my pronouns are she\they.
I’m agender, which is a little hard to explain. It’s ok if you don’t know what that is, or don’t get it! I’ve found this short comic to be very helpful in describing it, as it’s very close to what I feel. I don’t associate with any gender, and don’t really care what pronouns you use. I look more feminine, so assume what you will.
I don’t love labeling myself, but I do call myself queer. I have trouble narrowing my sexuality down to one term, but generally speaking, I’m not heterosexual.
I’ve always been a reader.
My mother took me on weekly library trips when I was younger, and I read anything I could get my hands on. I especially love novels with LGBTQ characters, misfit teams, excellent world building, a little bit of romance, and a good adventure. Bonus points if it has a gorgeous cover and a synopsis on the back instead of blurbs. I read mostly young adult, but I’m currently trying to expand my shelf to adult SFF literature; recommendations are always appreciated!
My favorite novels are Anne of Green Gables, Percy Jackson & the Olympians, The Lunar Chronicles (while slightly problematic, it has a nostalgic place in my heart), Dance of Thieves, Fullmetal Alchemist, Jurassic Park, Hamlet, Let’s Talk About Love, and My Lady Jane.
I’m also a writer.
I love writing. Novels, short stories, the occasional script – the only thing I don’t write is poetry. I’ve been a writer since I was young, and my goal is be both traditionally published and self-published. I hate drafting, but I do love the editing process. And the prep – pintrest boards, world building, plotting – all of that makes me so happy. I hope to have books both traditionally published and self-published in the future. My favorite writing tools are Campfire and Pinterest, and I’m always learning more and trying to improve my craft.
I have a passion for writing craft, editing, and helping fellow authors.
I love the feeling I get when I help a fellow writer develop and realize their vision for a story. I have a more left-brained, analytical mind, and I find I really enjoy breaking stories down and figuring out what works and what doesn’t.
I got my copyediting certification from Writer’s Digest, and I’m currently getting my Editing and Publishing Certificate from UCLA so I can be a freelance developmental editor! As of January 2021 I’ll be officially starting my career, and I hope to specialize in LGBTQIA fantasy novels. My goal is to be an affordable editor with a focus on diverse fantasy.
My other favorites…
My favorite shows include Anne with an E, She-Ra, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Lost in Space, andThe Good Place. As for movies, Jurassic Park and The Mummy are two that I could rewatch everyday (I have a type, clearly).
My music playlist has Hozier, The Unlikely Candidates, Bad Suns, Two Door Cinema, AJR, Imagine Dragons, The Score, and many others I’m sure I’ve forgotten. I’m also a big fan of mashups on youtube.
I enjoy engaging in thoughtful, respectful discussion and seeing different points of view. Don’t hesitate to engage, even if you disagree! And if you have any questions or need to contact me, you can do so via any of my socials or my email: email@example.com.
